FINAL WEEK IS OVER! 152 hours are completed!

I am proud to say I have completed 152 hours working at the University YMCA!. It is so sad to say I will    be leaving them. This was an experience I will never forget, I really enjoyed every moment I spent working as a graphic designer intern at the Y. This experience helped me step out of my comfort zone and really put my skills to the test which I succeed in the job. I have gained so much knowledge how a graphic designer is very important to promote their company and relays on how successful the designer designs. I designed best to my ability, received positive feedback form my work and took pride of the skills, and talents what I have accomplished designing work for the University YMCA. I will be sending thank you cards to my boss, and coworkers for having me as an intern.

I have worked on a cover for an annual report 2012-2013 for the Y. I am hoping that I will continue on this project after I have finished working for them and have this as a freelance project on the side. This catalog or booklet will be about 20 pages long and will be published in June of 2013. This would be a great piece to my portfolio.

3 pamphlet brochure design

I have worked 10 hrs this week. I have started on a new project by designing 3 pamphlet brochure design 5.5 in by 11 in about the University YMCA. This brochure lists the programs as well as its mission and what the University YMCA is about. In the past this brochre has already been created but it was my job as a graphic designer redesign this brochure to be brand compliance as well as have a consisent design that the Y already had. There certain colors I was only allowed to use, 2 fonts Verdana or Cachet, and use the Y's images that were approved by my boss.

Spring break workaholic!

This spring break I worked 36 hours! The reason being is because I found my internship late. I started a week after the class already started. Last week I have created the dump and run flyer in the mtd but I had to change the design horizontal because of the placement in side of the buses. I also have been working a action  book for the Y. I have created it in Indesign and have been working on this design spring break. It is 26-28 pages half letter. I wanted it so be simple yet unique. I tried to work on my typography skills and was very limited to use color. So I created a design in black in white and gray and had a consistent design. Below you will see the final design for Dump and Run and the Annual Action Sale the Y is holding.

I loved the final design I have created for the book. My boss loved the design work.

DUMP + RUN

I worked 10 hrs this week. So I have created an 11x17 flyer for the interior  design for the MTD. This is an event I think everyone should mark on their calenders. Every year people in the community donates used furniture  cloths, anything you have the YMCA will been collecting and selling in Aug.

I would look at the site because you never know what you might get at this place. You might find new stuff. This is a great way to recycle items you don't use anymore.

LA LINEA a helpline for the community

Front of the flyer

Back of the flyer

So I worked 10hrs mon 2-5 and tue 2-5 and fri 1-5 long week but I really enjoyed it because of this project. I had to create 2 ( 5x7) flyers one being in English and the other in Spanish for the La Linea helpline at the University YMCA.  La Linea is a helpline that helps immigrants who need help in the community and their job is by providing informational phone numbers for health, education, housing, and other issues they may have. I tried to create something that is eye catching, out the box, and the concept behind this was having a ticket meaning is by getting the ticket everyone is is a winner and its always FREE! Something along those lines.

Like I said earlier, I always like other peoples opinions on what they think of my designs. I hope you like this post this week.

Student Program flyer at the Y

I worked 10 hrs this week I am working on 5x7 student program flyer for the University YMCA, now do be alarmed when you see what I am working on. THIS IS NOT THE FINAL DESIGN I just want you guys to have a since of what I am working on.

Working for the Y, there is restriction on what I could do or color because it all has to follow the Y brand (which is a long story). So here is a jpg of what I am working on.

By the time I finish this, I promise it will not look like this I will post it after I am done but I am still working on it by making this simpler, clean, and defiantly fits in the Y brand.

Women of Color

As of 2/18/13 this is what they went for and out to print. yay!
a week after looking at this they decide to change it once more to the very first image on top.

The 2nd design is what I had but then a week later they decided to change it to the first design on top.

So I worked 12 hrs this week.  I spent my time working on this flyer and I was trying to work on some typography skills. I know having this internship there is always something to do or work on. They have many events they come upon very week. I will be working on some student programs they have at the Y.

Me and my LOVE for graphic design!

I know everyone is going to say this is NOT INTERESTING. I thought I would share my love about graphic design and what it has done to me. Well, long story short I cut my finger with an exactoknife preparing some design pieces I created to turn in for the ART GALLERY at Parkland. As I was on the ground cutting the foam board I just kept on going along with my finger. I didn't feel at first but then I saw a look blood (thank god it didn't get on my work) and I rushed to the hospital. I cut so deep that I went through my nail around my finger and got 6 stitches without of course stitching my nail. If you woundering if I cried because I am smiling in the picture that was before 3 doctors holding me down while they are stitching my finger up. PS I couldnt do anything for a week.
